Product design for a decision support platform about diabetes tech — from defining requirements to designing patient and clinician-facing tools. Led by Dr. Korey Hood at Stanford and funded by the Helmsley Trust.
Multi-phase development bringing national research to people day-to-day through conceptualization, patient-facing tools, clinician tools, and specialized decision support.
Phase 1: Conceptualization
Tool to bring national research to public with day-to-day impact
Phase 2: Patient-Facing
DiabetesWise.org for personalized device recommendations
Phase 3: Clinician Tools
DiabetesWise Pro for healthcare providers
Phase 4: Specialized Tools
Prescription support & device comparison tools
From the horoscope probe—an unlikely product option—we understood how impactful a humorous and light tone was in the communication.
"It brings a 'lightness' to us. We need that. It's nice to take a little bit of a break." — Research Participant
Learnings: Casual tone helped people feel comfortable • Indirectly addressing emotional challenges makes it less confrontational
Designed comprehensive platform with patient and clinician tools: personalized device recommendations based on individual priorities (fear of lows, dosing in public), prescription support tool navigating complex codes and rules, and device comparison tool filtering by person-centered and clinician-centered priorities.
Clinical Validation
Multiple clinical trials proving measurable impact on device adoption
Dual Platforms
Patient-facing tools and DiabetesWise Pro for clinicians
Community Hub
Expanded to include community-driven resources and support
I served as project lead and design co-lead across all four phases, working closely with Dr. Korey Hood at Stanford and collaborating with Brian Hoffer on design execution. From conceptualization through specialized tool development, we built a comprehensive platform serving both patients and clinicians. Our research-driven approach—discovering that casual tone makes clinical decisions less confrontational—shaped everything from the initial patient-facing tools to DiabetesWise Pro and specialized prescription support. Multiple clinical trials have validated the platform's impact, and it continues to evolve with community-driven features funded by the Helmsley Trust.
